We moved here at the end of july from Ohio.I had never lived anywhere else, lived in a small town about 60 miles form Cincinnat.Have never lived away from my family and I am so lonely and depressed here.DH was offered a job here so I thought I should give it a try. What a shock! My little town everyone knew everyone and so far I have met no one.Everything is so different here.We had to sell our house of course and we are in an apartment,I thought I would get to know people here in the complex but people just kind of say hi and don't seem to want to talk much.So far all I do is roam around the thrift stores and in and out of the differnet area stores, thank goodness I don't have to get on the freeway,I have never driven a freeway in my life. And to top it off I was having some female problems before I left home so when I got here went to the doctor and found out I am in pre menopause,I'm 44.I am afraid to go home for a visit because I don't think I would come back and my husband loves his job.He works in Ontario.Anyone have any advice for me I really need it.Thanks for listening I really neede some one to talk to.

Hi tami,

My dad and sister live in Victorville. My dad is in his 60's and my sister is 30 with four kids. I also have a sister who lives in Rancho Cucamonga (near Ontario) with her family. Ironically I live in Ohio (lol) and don't care for Cali either.

A few suggestions:

1. Join a church and get involved
2. Volunteer for Big Brother/Big Sister program (or similiar)
3. Get the book "What your doctor may not tell you about pre menopause" by Dr. Lee. It is a great book.

4. When you miss Ohio just think about driving in slushy brown snow in below freezing weather...

Let me know how things go...here are some links:

Hi Tami,
I live here in Riverside, about an hours drive from Victorville. I have a sister that lives in Apple Valley. I wish you could meet her. You would really like her. She lives off of Bear Valley road by KMart and McDonalds. I also work in Ontario for the school district. Have been there almost 20 years. Where does your husband work? I really don't envy him on the drive to and from the desert. I remember when Victorville was hardly nothing. Now it is a big city. My grandparents lived up there. My grandmother was just moved to Oregon just this last year. My aunt thought that that was the best thing for her. Grandma is going to be 91 this year. I know I was young when I moved to California. I lived in Salt Lake City, Utah. I was only 10 then and hated moving here. But now, you couldn't even get me to go back to Utah to live. I go visit my mom and my one brother that still live there and that is enough. But I do know how it is being away from your family. I am very close to mine. And I know how it is being away from them. Even though they live all over California now. I am 56 now and am really enjoying life. I live on a half acre that I just bought about 2 1/2 years ago. And I love it. But anytime you want to talk to someone I am here. We don't want you being lonely. Have you ever thought about getting into gardening? I did, and I love it. Plants are so rewarding. But anyway, write if you want and just hang in there. Things are going to get better. There are people out there that you will meet. So I will end this now. Take care and hope you get to doing better.
Norma (Riverside, Ca.)
