Can I throw my own...

My husband is military and we live far way from any family. Well Im 7 months pregnant and we're starting to think about a baby shower. I dont have many CLOSE friends, I have co-workers and some casual friends who would come to a baby shower but I dont have anyone really close to me that would go through the hassle to throw me a baby shower. Would it be wrong of me to throw my own??

Yes, I think it would be wrong for you to do it, but might you ask a co-worker to go in with you, for one? You could use 'her' place and you could supply food.

Um, tacky would be the word for that.

If people want to buy you some stuff for the baby, they will. Asking someone else to throw a shower for you is tacky, as well.

Tell your family you want a baby shower the next time you're on leave.

You could wait until the baby was born and someone could hold a welcome baby shower. That way people could see the little one, and know what to bring--girl/boy. This type of shower is very popular here--no games, just visiting and snacks and sometimes come and go.
