RE: Worst Dinner Parties

My first marriage ended badly, partly because my XMIL never liked me. I remember two dinner parties she invited me to when I was dating her son. The first, she had roasted a chicken. As the hostess, she took the first piece and passed the platter. By the time it got around the table to me, only the neck was left. Who cooks chicken necks? When I cook, I throw it out, along with those organs in the white paper bag. Anyway, I tried to be a good sport and eat it. The meat tasted "gamey" and there were a lot of bones. Another time, she served beef tongue. Need I tell you, it was like french-kissing a cow? My second MIL was much kinder.

Who cooks chicken necks? My mother. We had whole meals of only chicken necks. I think your XMIL was extremely rude. If you were dating her son at the time, I would think you would be the "honored guest" and would have the platters passed to you FIRST.

Jannie! I sympathize! My MIL did the same thing to me. She would make Leg of Lamb or Liver whenever I was invited, because she knew I didn't care for it. I should have invited her over for Venison, which she refused to eat. But I was NICE Da--it!
