Sears Garage door opener problem

I have a Sears garage door opener with the large button on top, with the smaller "light" and "lock" buttons underneath. Recently, the unit has started intermittantly stopped working unless I press the "lock" button first, then press the open/close button. I have tried holding the "lock" button to reset it, but it still occurs. I purchased a replacement panel from Sears and installed it, but the problem still exists. The remotes work fine, along with the keypad.?????
I am thinking that the IC board is defective, in which case I'll probably replace the unit. Does anyone have any words of wisdom before I do so? Thanks,
Cappy

I would make sure all the connections are tight. Check the two connections on the rear of the wall control. If they check out I think you would be ahead to replace that unit.
