Garage door opener - Keyless Wireless Entry

I recently bought wireless keyless remote for my Craftsman Garage door opener(model 18458). The package of the wireless keyless entry indicates it works with all 18000 series units, so I am not sure why the one I just bought does not work. I called Sears and the went through all the steps with me and confirmed that the wireless keyless entry keypad did not work. I exchanged it as per the Sears reps instructions but the replacement is having the same issues. Could it be the garage door opener unit is the problem? What else should I do?

RE: Garage door opener - Keyless Wireless Entry

Is it a Craftsman wireless or a universal? See what color your learn button is. If it is green you need a model number 53876 keyless if it is red you need a 53684 keyless if it is purple you need a 53754 keyless. Those are the sears numbers. If you want Liftmaster you need a 66LM for green, a 976LM for red and a 376LM for purple. The color of the learn button indicates what frequency the units are operating on and the keylesses are not interchangeable.
