| I will soon be purchasing a new garage door opener. I'm considering a belt drive made by Craftsman or Chamberlain. I have a 15 foot ceiling to contend with. I would like to install the opener myself, but unsure on how to brace the opener. |

| Have a commercial style opener installed. The ones on the side wall at one end of the spring. Unless you have a 15 foot door you will waste 7 feet of ceiling space when the opener is hung at the 8 foot level. I have a 16 foot ceiling in my garage and took a regular opener and pulled the the bar off of it. Mounted it on the side of the tortion spring and attached a 8 inch sprocket to the spring shaft connected to the opener with #42 chain. The opener is on the side wall away from ceiling hight. I have a hoist in the garage and the opener cannot be at the 8 foot level as it is in the way of the car roof as it is razed. |

| The forces on a door opener are front to back and the header over the door takes care of this. I like using electrical conduit to hang the opener. Cut to length, flatten the ends and drill for bolt holes. You can add a third piece of conduit from the top of one to the bottom of the other forming a letter 'N'. This should take care of it. |
