Craftsman Garage Door Opener (GDO) gear not working

We have a Craftsman HBW1127 GDO. Our garage door was sticking on the way up so I adjusted the Up screw this AM and it went up & closed OK. When my wife got home this afternoon, it wouldn't open at all. We had to re-attach one of the cables on the garage door that had slipped off its pulley wheel to get the door to open evenly again. When we tried the GBO opener again, the motor only hums and won't turn the GDO gear chain. Does this mean I need to get a new gear for the motor or a whole new motor? What should I do now?

The fact you had to re-attach a cable means you have door problems. I would bite the bullet and get a technician out. They will correct all your problems.
