Merlin garage door opener

I have a Merlin M230T opener with M872 remotes (the old type on 40Mhz), only one of which now works but poorly. I was advised that the M802 would replace it and have obtained two from Australia but having set them up the same as the old ones, they don't work. Can anyone suggest a solution please?
