Fan in Garage?

A friend suggested we install a ceiling fan in the garage since a gas furnace in the garage would cause the heat to rise to the ceiling of the garage. This struck us as the craziest thing we'd ever heard.... We live in Northern Michigan where it can typically get below freezing every winter. What should we do in our new house? We were thinking of putting a gas furnace in the garage.

Heat rises no matter if your in the garage or kitchen. Installling a ceiling fan can help circulate the heat.

If you reverse the fan blade rotating direction opposite the direction you would have them go in the summer it will help circulate the heat. Don't know how much of a difference it will make.

Denise,

I have a wall mounted gas heater in my garage and the ceiling fan makes a big difference. It's not essential but my garage is also my workshop so comfort is important to me.
