We're redoing our garage as part of a larger project and will have to replace our garage doors with something about 3 inches taller. I've never had to shop for these and don't know what I don't know.

Currently we have the sectional type that goes up on two tracks. These seem popular in my squishy suburb but I don't know why. Maybe because you don't have to clear the area in front of them before opening? Is there any advantage to these over the tilt-up canopy type?

Does one type have better clearances? I need all the height I can get.

What's a good material for an on-site painted door if weather is mild and insulation is not a concern?

Any recommendations on brands or websites that explain this stuff or anything else I should know? :)
