craftsman garage door operer

the garage door will not open or close.. when i push the opener button it goes up 3 inches and then back down... i had the cover off the controls and i appears to be a relay in the control panel(logic board) . does anyone have any other ideas.. maybe a different way of troubleshoot. i appreciate any assistance .. thanks in advance

Take a good look at your door springs and also the drive gear which is white nylon and is just in front of the motor. It will not be a relay.
