Garage door opener is stuck in manual mode

My garage door opener had issues opening up with remote or push button. I then changed the lever to use in manual mode and now it is stuck in manual mode. While I try to push the lock back to change it to automatic it won't allow me. It seems like the lock is not moving away/back from its position.

What do I do to fix?

I guess you mean the lever that releases the door from the opener. What is the make and model number of your opener. There are several.

Yes, it is the lever that releases the door. The make is Genie Excelerator Series II. I bought it at Lowes about 8 years ago. Hope this helps.

On Genies with no clutch nut coming out of the back of the motor head, there is a small plastic coupler that connects the screw assembly to the main power head. To check and replace that part, remove the two screws holding the rail to the main power head.
