craftsman garage door openers - storm

I have 2 craftsman garage door openers...1 15 years old, 1 3 yrs old. We had a bad thunder storm last night and the old opener works fine, but the new one doesn't. The lights are on and the diagnostic light blinks 5 times meaning unit overheated. Do i have any option other than replacing the $78.00 logic board? I hate to put that money into this unit if something is just out of sync. Thanks. (I have unplugged unit and switched breaker on and off several times.)

Odds are it is the logic board just as you think.

Same problem here same day (eastern MA). Not sure whether I'll replace the board or the opener...

Do the plug-in surge suppressors for GDOs help at all?

I am not sure about the surge suppressors as I don't live in lightning country and have no experience with them. I really am sceptical about what can help with lightning. I think I would hedge my bet and install them though.
