GDO going Backwards!

Hi I just purchased a "reconditioned" craftsman 1/2 Chain driven GDO and after installing everything and testing it, the garage door opener is turning the chain the opposite way. Meaning, I have the door closed, and it only forces the door down. I get the motor to go the opposite way at all. The rails will bent and the motor will twist a little. I'm thinking there may be a short circuit somewhere but want to see if anyone else have experienced teh same issue. Thanks for everyones input!

Who "reconditioned" this thing? Try loosening the chain enough so that you can remove it from the sprocket above the motor. Now run the motor until the sprocket quits turning. Replace the chain and try. You will most likely have to adjust the up and down limit controls that are on the side of the motor unit.
