1/2 hp Craftsman Garage Door Opener, desparately need help!

I have a 1/2hp model 139.53973SRT which has been acting very quirky.

Here's what it was been doing (very inconsistent and has now stopped giving problems since this happened a week ago)
-it started that a few times on it's own it opened a few seconds after it closed with no blinking lights
-when going halfway down, it came back up and started blinking as if something was tripping the floor sensors, nothing was
- it then went down and stopped halfway, not blinking, but then when I pressed the wall control it wouldn't move up or down, no lights were blinking and all I would here is a click of sorts when I pushed the button.

I then disconnected the safety to close the door manually, when I reattached it the following day it works fine since, but a little yellow light by the "smart button" keep blinking.

Does anyone know what that light might mean and what could explain the irratic behavior?

Thanks so much in advance!

Random flashing of that LED is normal but it can sometimes send a signal when there is a problem. It will flash a number of times, pause and then repeat.

It sounds like you may possibly have two problems involved here. On the rear of the motor unit you will find a control marked 'down force.' Increase this just a bit. On the side of the motor unit you will find a control marked 'down limit.' Turn this a bit in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Some tweaking will be necessary. Both of these problems can be intermittent.
