1/2HP Craftsman Garage Door Opener: Problem

The door has been open for months with no use of the opener. I tried closing it the with all methods (remotes & hard wire), but it will only move about a 1/2" at a time in the upward direction. Manually the door will go up and down very easily, and the sensors on good. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
