GDO only opens 1 foot and stops

Hello everyone! I have a 1/2 hp craftsmen GDO that for the most part seemed to work fine. Till a few days ago I press the remote or the wall unit and the GDO only goes up about 1-1 1/2 ft up and stops.I checked the travel and the gears, every things seems to be fine. Am I over looking something or does the door need balancing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The first thing to do is disconnect the opener and see if the door operates freely. It should balance or drop very slowly when it is roughly half way open.

Check the door springs. Sounds like one is broken.
