Building detached garage over tree roots

I want to build a detached garage over an area that has tree roots underground. I cut a large oak tree down to accommodate the garage. Now that the tree has been cut, are there any concerns for building the garage over the root system? When the roots eventually die, will there be any appreciable settling of the soil under the garage causing foundation damage? I live in an area that is primarily sand/clay. Thanks

When the ground is excavated for the slab and footer, they will also have to remove the remnants of the tree. Roots that are deeper than they need to excavate won't be a problem.
