My Old Sears Garage Door Opener: Anyone Can Open it now

Posted by rnunez (My Page) on

I bought a townhouse with an older Craftsman Garage Door Opener. I bought a Universal Remote and programmed it to open and it did. Now several of my neighbors can open my garage door. I tried reprograming the original remote by moving the dip switches and it worked. The universal doesn't open it, but my neighbors still can.

The garage door opener works fine, so I don't think buying a new one is the solution, but I am at a loss at this point.

There are a number of after market rolling code remotes available.
Hooking the receiver up to the opener is very easy, and then a new code is used every time the door is opened.
The old dip switch remotes only had 256 codes (8 switches) and were never really very secure.
