how to decorate the metal post (in garage)

I am converting part of my garage to be the kids playing room, one of the concern is that there is a metal post in the middle of the garage, how can I wrap it and decorate it so it will be safe and looks pretty.

frame it out and drywall it.
Or find some of the those foam things like they put on goal posts at football fields.

That's a great idea about the foam, Jason. I wonder if it's available for the short posts they install to protect water heaters and furnaces in the garage. I'd love to cover up mine with something.
