I'm looking for recommendations on how y'all have built a large (6000sqft+) shop/garage/storage building. This will be separate from the house and will contain a woodworking shop plus various other "man's play areas." Heat would be nice but it would be wood-stove (lots of mature alder trees on the property that are about at the end of their lifespan). Options are pole-barn, steel building, conventional stick frame, etc.

Also, has anyone put their main electrical service (320A) in a shop and then run the house off a subpanel? The house will be small and super-efficient to heat, geothermal heat pump and all that good stuff.
