Garage door opener not working

I have a Overhead brand garage door opener "called an overdrive" screw drive. The problem is when I hit the button it goes really fast for just a sec and then stops, the light goes off and I have to unplug and plug back in to reset it and the light will work again.

any help is appreciated.

It does this with and without the door attached
