We just moved into our house a few months ago. It has a very old, standalone 1 car garage behind the house that is bad shape (rotted beams, caving in roof) and is tiny (barely fits my compact car).

I'm thinking of demolishing that garage and putting in a 2-car carport instead. Anyone have an idea how much this would cost (Shenandoah Valley in VA)?. The job would involve demolishing and hauling the old garage debris, grading the area with gravel (maybe asphalt) and putting in the carport (I see those cost around $1000). Also, since we live on a busy road (current garage/driveway only allows backing out) a turn-around pad behind behind or next to the carport would be necessary (currently we turn around on the grass but that has now turned to a muddy/icy quagmire). Any rough estimates would be appreciated. I know the costs probably vary widely but I don't want to get ripped off when I go talk to a contractor. Thanks in advance!
