Sears garage door opener

My sear garage door opener sometimes won't close, it makes a clicking sound and the door makes a motion to close but doesn't, sometimes if i keep trying it will work, other times I have to use the emergency release handle and close the door manualy and then the opener will work. This problem only happens on closing the door.

The unit is 1/2 HP craftsman about 13 yrs. old

It sorta' sounds like your door sensors may be misaligned. Make sure they are pointing at one another. When they are aligned properly there will be a small light on each one that is lit and not blinking.
