I absolutely love this table...but it's about $4k. Anyone know where i can get something close to this that is actual wood and not laminate for cheaper?

I have no idea what size you are looking for but the DW and I are looking at buying the benchwright from pottery barn. It's a big slab table like the one above, that I think is solid wood.

At $1700, it's not exactly cheap, but it's a good deal less than the $4k.

Here's the link PB Benchwright

Yep - we loved this one too! We even went to Pottery Barn to check it out. The little end pieces are truly that thick, but the main table isn't. I'm not good at describing these things - so bear with me!

If you were to look underneath the table, you would see the main table and two lengthwise pieces of wood...sort of like an "L"...instead of a solid table top - like the two little end pieces are.

I know - I suck at explaining! But basically - I don't think it's worth $1700...but maybe i just haven't shopped around enough!

It is wood and not laminate - which is great.

WOW! Thanks for the info. That makes me love the table less... thanks for posting that. And you don't suck at explaining, I totally understand what you are saying. It's basically a plank top with thick beam ends and shaped sides so that it looks like a thick solid piece, right? Kind of like how some countertops have thicker edges to appear like they are big fat slabs.

Well in that case, let me know if you find something better for that price range :)

Yes - you got exactly what I was trying to explain!!! I am going to keep researching and if I find anything I'll post back!
