Hi there, Your post caught my eye because we are looking for the same thing.
I am not sure of your budget, but my husband and I are considering a Stickley mission style stand in quartersawn oak. They are having a winter sale right now and we were quoted approximately 5 times of what you paid for a 68" wide stand. They do make a 2 door model as well. We are considering it an investment, since the TV and it will be the focal point of our small living room.

I bought a 66" TV stand in quartersawn oak for $2000 from missionliving.com I couldn't find anything on the internet good or bad about them other than their site so I took the leap. The piece took 6-8 weeks to make and ship and I am very happy with it. Very high quality. All solid wood, no veneer. Very sturdy construction. Dovetailed draws, etc.
It shipped via freight with curb service which means that a truck with a liftgate pulls up and the use a pallet jack to pull the piece to in front of your house and they leave it there. You have to move it inside, unpack it etc. At 300+ pounds for a TV stand that might not be feasible for everyone to do. I had no problem with it. Had two friends come over and help me carry it to the second floor and unwrapped it there. Very well packed, no damage at all. I think they offer 'white glove delivery' also (where they bring it in your house and unpack it for you) but there's a significant charge for it...
