Butcher Block counter tops

Hi all!

I have a piece of butcher block I'd like to use for a countertop. Long story, but it's a temporary thing that might be there for awhile.

It is unfinished. Is there something I should treat it with or put on it to give it some stain resistance and durability? It's older and dry, so I know the 1st spill will stain it permenantly.

I'd also like to find where others recommend purchasing a permenant butcher block countertop? I love it and would like to find someone in the DC/Annapolis, Bethesda/Rockville area.

Thanks for the suggestions,

Christine
