Check out Howard's Restore-A-Finish. You can google it. I also know you can find it at Ace Hardware and Home Depot. It's a great product and very very easy to use. There's a thread about it on Home Decorating, but I don't remember what the subject is.

What you see are surface scratches in the top coat of lacquer. They are caused by almost anything that is slid around the top. Hi-gloss sheens are the most susceptible to seeing these marks. It doesn't matter how often the table is used, all it takes is one meal. Of course the more you use the table the more it will occur. Two remedies- get a table pad to protect the top during use, or when they are frustrating enough to your eye, have the table buffed by a pro repair person.

at your own risk you can test some car wax in a small area. I read using 3M wax worked and I tried it on a small Maitland Smith table and it worked really well. The car wax has a light abrasive & removed the top layer of wax and filled in the swirls in the finish.
