henredon fireside sofas: why are they less expensive?

and how are they doing it? i was going to order two 91" FS sofas from henredon (each $2770) but the "more affordable" part has me suspect. i've heard of frames being manufactured in china on other lines. is henredon doing the same?
TIA.

RE: henredon fireside sofas: why are they less expensive?

Henredon is not what it used to be. Since Henredon shut down its factory in High Point, NC the quality has suffered, even though the products are still being made in the US.

Henredon, like many other furniture manufacturers, is desperately trying to cut costs. For example they now use plywood in many of their frames. Apparently the cheaper workforce they are now using is not as highly skilled as the more experienced craftsmen they laid off in High Point.
