Mattress Support

I have a question for you all. We have one of those metal frames for our queen bed. We do not have a boxspring right now and won't for a while. What can I do to provide support for the mattress until then?

I've seen two options - wooden slats or plywood. Which do you think would be better? I'm willing to do either one, and both are relatively inexpensive. Thoughts?

If you have not already done something; the plywood wrapped in an old sheet will do just fine and take a lot less time than cutting slats. It is also much better for the life of the mattress; by the way the sheet is just to keep from snagging your mattress on the wood.
