Area rug measurements

We recently purchased a sectional and are now trying to decide the appropiate size for an area rug. The sectional is L-shaped measuring 106 x 106. Do we go with an 8 x 10 or a 9 x 12? Overall room measurement is 16'2" x 16"5".

Is there a general rule of thumb...front legs on the rug, back legs off? Furniture on or off the rug?

The rule of thumb is furniture either on or off the rug....no frpont legs on back legs off....but also there is a "rule" that says rules were made to be broken.
I would do a rug even larger..15 by...whatever...14 or 12.

lainer I suggest a 9 by 12 and feel you should see some of the floor.
