Lee Industries Sofa - Quality Concern

Using Google to search for high quality sofas, I found numerous posts on this forum recommending Lee Industries sofas. I went to Crate and Barrel and fell in love with one (comfort-wise).

The sofa I'm referring to is the Briarwood (C&B's name for it). It's official name is the L1017-03.

The problem is, when I tested to sturdiness of the frame by putting sideways pressure on the armrests and back rail, they all moved back and forth with minimal pressure. They moved more than even some sofas at 1/3 the price.

The movement was excessive but the frame was far from rock solid.

Is this an indication of a quality issue? Have others experienced this?

RE: Lee Industries Sofa - Quality Concern

I took delivery of a Lee Industries sofa and love seat a few months ago, these came directly from Lee, not C&B, if that makes a difference. My pieces/frames seem rock solid. No creaks etc. I didn't perform any "tests" on them, but my furniture store does their own quality checks before delivery and they said they rarely have issues with Lee and have sold hundreds & hundreds of them. That said, I did an issue with the seat and back cushions being under-stuffed. However, between the excellent customer service my furniture store provides, and the apparent willingness of Lee to stand behind their product, we are well on our way to a resolution.

Although I was disappointed that there was an issue, I am still very happy with my sofas! They are the most comfortable I've ever owned.

i just received my lee sofas and they're beautiful, with comfy down stuffed cushions. no issues.

note: if you'd like to pay more for your sofas, definitely go through C&B.

I have 5 pieces of furniture from Lee Industries - I love them all. The quality is outstanding. I won't buy anything else.

Most upholstery manufacturers are switching to whats called "engineered plywood frames" If you want a strong sofa frame that will last; then dont buy from any manufacture that uses these kinds of frames.
