Making a daybed--

I really like the look of the Pottery Barn daybed with the basket storage underneath...want two for guest bedroom in vacation home in FL..

Like the clean lines and fact that it doesn't look too girly or ornate...but the PB price is much higher than we want to pay for "occasional" furniture...

I have tried to source same product with other suppliers in less expensive product line w/o much luck...and they rarely come up on CL for two beds at same time...

I wondered what would be the chances of getting some IKEA bookcases--Billys--and lying on their side and adding couple of sheets of plywood on top to make a daybed...

Does anyone have any idea what weight those bookcases would support?

There are times when adults might need to sleep on them -- not just children--

Some less expensive daybeds I found online support less than 150 lbs

which is borderline for full size adult...or having a parent/child sit on bed to read or something...

I found plans to build similar beds but very time consuming and we just don't have the time right now although my husband has the skill...

Buying unfinished furniture mate's bed (which these compare to) is almost as expensive as PB's so that isn't really an option either...
