It's very traditional in style with the exposed wood frame, and definitely French style based on the carvings and legs.

A room that starts with this sofa, should probably have French bergere chairs to complement it's design and wood and stone accent pieces.

Dear Shear. I think you did well to pass on this. It may be from a top manufacturer and in good condition but I think it looks dated and a bit old fashioned and you should go for a more updated look. You would have set up your room around a dated look. The exception might have been if you recovered it and had you done that you might as well buy a new sofa.
