negotiating price

We are in love with a Lexington upholstered sectional at a local, family-operated fine furnishings store. It's been sitting in the same place in the store at least since February.

The retail price is $9,700 and their listed price is $6,300. They are having a June-July sale that's 50% off of retail ($4,850). We asked if they would come down a little on the price and they said "but it's a Lexington and the price is already 50% off..." We went back the next day hoping that they'd see we are a serious buyer but all they said was that the price would go back to $6,300 in a few days so we should consider buying it now.

I don't even know what number I'd say "yes" to but I'm just frustrated they just shut down completely at negotiating at all.

It's been there for 6 months and was priced at $4,850 for 60 days.

Is it typical not to negotiate at all with potential buyers? I would think they'd at least offer free delivery... or something?!??!
