unknown stain on leather sofa

Hello all. This is the first time I've posted on this forum, but I have searched it for advice many times. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me with this.

I woke up this morning to this strange stain on our gray leather-ish sofa (I think it's called compound leather-like the cheap OSB of leathers).

Picture is attached. It doesn't feel like anything was spilled there, unless it was water. I don't recall it being there yesterday, and aside from 45 minutes or so before bed and briefly in the morning, we weren't sitting there all day. Rubbing the "stain" with a damp microfiber cloth didn't seem to help, and actually seemed to make it bleed a bit more.

It's like it appeared out of nowhere. Anyone know what this could be, and more importantly, what can we do to clean it?

Could it be hot liquid? I would try leather cleaner...if that does not work, I would call the manufacturer/store where you bought it. Strange.

In my opinion this stain is not going to come out with any cleaner and I wouldn't attempt it as you may make it worse. Do you have a pet? Some flea and tick products such as Advantix can do this. it really looks like something was spilled on the leather even if it happened earlier in the day. It didn't just appear from nowhere and I do not think it was a problem with the leather and I don't think the leather is defective.

I would call a leather tech in your area. Go to your search engine and write in leather furniture repair and then see who comes up. Then call the companies that come up and using your own judgement call the one that appears to be the most qualified. Expect a repair cost of $125-$200 depending on where you live. A good tech can fix this.

By the way this is why I like some of the extended warranties as with some of these plans, but not all, this would be a covered claim and you would be very happy to have the plan.

We do have pets - and now that you mention it, we did just give our two dogs Advantage. They are allowed to lay on the furniture, and looking at the location and the way the stain is formed, that does make sense. Rats. I never thought about that.
Oh well. If a leather cleaner doesn't do the trick, we'll keep a throw tossed over that part of the couch. It's not the end of the world.
