My husband and I (no kids) are planning to turn a tiny bedroom into a small den. Need seating for two, instead of a loveseat I was thinking of putting together a one-armed chair and a one-armed chaise -- would look something like this but without the middle piece:

This appeals to me because the chaise would be more comfortable than just a loveseat/ottoman combo (great for when I have insomnia). The chaise would tuck into the corner of the room, and I would put a smaller ottoman in front of the one-arm chair. Anyway, I was loving this idea until I started shopping. Two salespeople have now told me that this combo would "look weird". The other problem is that the quotes we have seem really expensive, compared to a loveseat or even a full-size sofa. We have one quote on American Leather pieces for $4K and one on Vanguard (American Bungalow) for $3K. I would love to hear what others think--would it look odd? And any other lines that might be good quality but reasonably priced? Thank you!
