I think you'd attached the legs to a plywood square and then attach that to the tray.

Just noticed, sorry about the typos in the original email. This may be a dumb question, Sushipup, but how do you attach the blocks of wood with the legs to the tray?

I think you'd use a larger piece of plywood instead of 4 individual blocks. No idea about attaching the tray, perhaps a screw thru the middle?

I would consider brazing which is the technique plumbers use to join copper pipe fittings. That or silver solder. Both can be done with nothing more than an ordinary MAPP or propane torch.

Not being an expert at either technique, I can't guarantee they are suitable for the task but they might be.

Allll way too much work! I would suggest double face tape, but find it not to be as durable and long lasting as Velcro, my fav! Stayed in place for years, even when it was knocked over by the grandchildren a couple of times.

I have a brass tray that looks to be similar in size, and used it for years with Velcro holding the tray to the metal base, which I found at a thrift store. I don't use the table anymore, but can't bring myself to part with it since it was very unusual. As a matter of fact, DD/DH just purchased a new house and will be needing a coffee table, and I think it will be perfect for the Morocan theme they're going with.
