Need a new dining table

We just moved into a new home. Our old table (11 years old) that needs refinishing anyway, doesn't seem to suit this space at all (the size is too small and not feeling like the table fits the style of this home either).

The problem is finding a good quality table that can stand up to the wear and tear of a family. We don't really use placemats. In fact, we did when we first bought this table 11 years ago. We got fabric placemats from Crate and Barrel, and the first time that we ate a meal on the table, the placemats almost fused to the table just from the warm meal. I think we had a defective finish from the beginning.

I was wondering if there are suggestions for where to look for a good quality table? I like some of the larger and beefier styles from Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn, and Crate and Barrel, but absolutely don't want the problems that seem to come with these brands (many are unfinished, many are just made cheaply).

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any advice!!
