Help restoring shine to marble table

I'm not sure this is the right forum, so if there is a better one, please let me know.

I bought this neat solid marble wrought iron table at Goodwill for $10. It has many surface scratches. It also has a large dull, white-ish circle in the middle and a smaller one which you can see in the front center of the photo. The large circle is just behind it.

I read about using 0000 steel wool to buff out the scratches and that worked pretty well, but it also took out what shine the marble had and didn't remove the white circles. I applied some automotive polishing compound which didn't help bring back the shine (I also had applied it before using the steel wool and it did a pretty good job except it didn't shine those white circles).

I figured that if I could get a really good shine, it may keep those dull white circles from showing up so much. If I can't buff a shine into it, can I apply some sort of artificial shine?

Thanks!
