Leather dye works only if your dying a whole hide. Im afraid if you try to dye just a portion, you will regret it.

Have you tried to find a leather repair company in your area that may be able to dye the faded area? We've had great luck with a local company that dyed a navy blue seat cushion for our Hancock & Moore wingback and also the seats of leather chairs in our office conference room. The leather looked great after the repair and has worn well.

Sorry, but I don't have photos of the repaired leather chairs. The finish on the repaired areas is as pliable and as matte as the original leather finish on the chairs. We had the repairs done on the wingback about 5 years ago, about 4 of the conference room chairs about 4 years ago and another 4 conference chairs about 2 years ago. We used the chairs daily or nearly so and the leather remains great looking. If you find a local company, ask them for samples of their work so you can be assured that you will be pleased with the end product. The cost was low enough that it was cost effective to do the repair rather than reupholster.
