They all make both good and bad sleepers; nowdays they use plywood frames for sleepers, should be solid hardwood veneers(poplar), no less than 7/8" thick and 9 plys or more and glued and screwed lapping joints, dowells are better but I dont think anyone is using dowels with plywood.
The mechanism should not be imported, US still has the best steel and engineered mechanisms, the imports can only compete on price alone.
Mattress, will make a large difference in the final costs, buy just as you would a regular mattress.
I doubt you will find these quality features in a Ashley sleeper, maybe on the higher end Lazboy sleepers.
