We are looking at the leather sofa and chair from Bernhardt, collection is "Foster".
I have read where some leather is from China, I was not aware of this. How do I find out where the leather is from.
Also read about "Married Cover" leather not sure what that is either if someone could explain?
I just don't want the dye to be toxic to my children like toys are from there.
Hi I have the some concerns on the married cover. And also am in the same boat as the other person. I have recently done a lot of research on sofas. However, I live in NM and there is not much to choose from. I am sold on the Bernhart Foster leather sofa. But I am very nervous of the commitment. I am a mother of 3 children under six and a small dog and a older cat that just sleeps. I have been looking for depths, comfortable and good quality sofa. I have looked at the H & M but they don't have anything that I like in the depth of the seating. So my questions is like everyone else the toxic's of the leather and the quality of the Foster sofa. Can anyone give me some advice? Thanks Monica
Most leather (90%) is tanned using chromium compounds and various other chemicals depending on the tannery and what industries their are purchasing the tanning chemicals from. The tannery should do their upmost to remove the chromium in the tanning process. Some do, many dont. Their are a number of accredited testing laboratories that provides tests or certificates of testing for manufacturers. I would contact the manufacturer (Bernhardt) ask them to provide a copy of the recent test data (EN-71)migration of toxins, for their leather coming from China.
I have a Bernhardt leather chair. I love it. It has held up remarkably well. On the issue of imports... How many furniture companies import the leather used in the furniture? I think we would be surprised on the stats as well as the intermediary products from China that are used in USA products.
