Featherbed vs. Pillowtop

What is the difference between featherbed and pillowtop? Is a featherbed basically a pillowtop?

We just ordered a firm mattress and box spring set from McRoskey. We chose firm comfort, mainly because my husband is a stomach sleeper and he prefers firm bed. My body, however, definitely prefers softer bed.

Would a featherbed help soften the bed while maintaining the mattress' firm support?

RE: Featherbed vs. Pillowtop

Depending on your sleep habits you could put a topper on your side of the bed. It is considerably better to put a soft layer on top of a firm mattress than a firm layer on top of a cloud. Many mattresses have firm and pillowtop options with the difference being a couple layers of foam over the same springs.
