I too am looking at sofa from Bari Leather the 'Venice' I got my swatch today and really like the color. I have corresponded with a couple people that purchased from them over ebay and they both seem satisfied and the have excellent feedback...I think I may take the plunge! Let me know what you decide.

Thank you for your response. I have ordered the set; even though it looks burgundy in the picture, it is actually dark brown. I was also impressed by the testimonials about the quality of the product and the customer service. I will let you know how it goes, and you please do the same.

I ordered a Tuscany set and I love it. The customer service was great and the product is beautiful and extremely well made.
RE: Bari Leather Horrible Customer Service
| | |
Customer servie was just horrible. Should have taken 4-5 weeks it took 10 weeks. Came damaged. When called they took zero responsibility just blamed shipping company. If you do research this is how they handle any issues. They will tell you it is a one time thing and they are not using those shipping company's anymore. I found these types of blogs dating back to 2004. Would not reccommend any company that doesn't stand by their entire sale.

This customer (dmac1622) is sadly a perfect example of why sometimes forums need to be taken with a grain of salt. Almost every statement he has made is false. This customer purchased a set of furniture that was to ship in 4-6 weeks. It did. He purchased on 1/29/06 and it shipped on 3/05/06 and was delievered weeks earlier than what he is claiming. We can fax proof of delivery to anyone who would like verification. Secondly, the 'damage' he is reffering to is the dust cover on the bottom of the sofa which was slightly torn by the delivery company. As most people know, this is incredibly minor and easily fixed. The shipping company took full responsibility for the damage and paid for the quick and easy repair. The shipping company is Home Direct USA. They are the premier white glove company in the US and handle Neiman Marcus and Circuit City, as well as us. And we have not stopped using them. Another falsehood by this customer. And finally, this customer demanded that we pay him $75 dollars as 'compensation' for his 'sufferring' or he would spread bad things about us all over the internet. Regrettably, we mailed him the check...not to stop bad things being said about us but quite frankly, to end his constant emails and calls. The same day we promised the check; he posted this. You be the judge. If you would like to see testimonials from actual customers who have purchased from us, please visit our site. Some of them have even left email addresses(optional on their part) to contact them if you so desire.

Folks I can assure you this is not the case you do the research check the ebay reports. Anything that is out there with an issue they have come to a settlement with the customer. Maybe being paid off is somthing those people want but not me. The 75.00 was not ever anything I wanted only something Bari represented to me as something that was offered to them by the shipping company and they would send to me. I have never extorted anyone the 75.00 means absolutely nothing to me. Their dates of purchase and delivery seems to make sense, but see what Bari considers delivery is the day it leaves their warehouse not the date in which it gets to you which was my exact issue for writing this blog (they claim 4-6 weeks). It did leave Bari on 03/05/06 however was delivered on 03/26/07 to me. Only after having been told I would receive delivery between 03/06/07-03/16/07 and never receiving any phone calls telling of delays. I realize things happen however it was their horrible follow up to an entirely awful experience that set me off. I spoke to a man claiming to be an "owner" and he seemed to emulate the same type of mantra of once it leaves our warehouse we have done everything we can do, that made me decide to write this blog. Please understand I have never written a blog in my life. I believe however a company that does do a great job of taking credit all over their website on these "great experiences" and markets to the internet should still be responsible for thier product and process. If they make their livelyhood on people that buy this way then they have a responsibility. What Bari failed to tell you is that when they found I had voiced my frustration on this blog they cancelled the check of the supposed ransom of "75.00". I too have copies of all those emails from Bari if you would like to see copies. There website does not post these types of responses only the ones they want you to see. I would love them send you the paperwork showing the dates in which I received the furniture just ask it is a click away. I am sure they won't reply to this because the next post I will have the waybill showing the entire delivery process (we will see who is making false statements). In terms of home direct usa being Bari's shipping service Bari's repsonse to their delays I believe whent something like this....it's like a great restaurant you have been going to for years and then all of a sudden it just goes down hill..... They furthered to say they were cancelling the home usa delivery service for their customers but were waiting until some of the orders in their system completed. Either way the furniture I have is nice I make no bones about it, my advice is that as long as things go just right then fine you would be happy it seems, but if anything happens, damage, delivery or otherwise just remember Bari didn't do it and will do nothing to take ownership!!!!!!!

We are hopeful that readers see this for what it is. His furniture shipped on time and he loves it. He ordered White Glove delivery that he was advised takes an additonal 2-3 weeks over standard shipping which take in most cases 3-6 days. Everything happened as was promised. His furniture was delivered in perfect condition in the time promised and he loves it. If he had damage, our claims specialists wuld have resoleved it as everything ships insured but of course, his furniture was perfect and he loves it. In regards to our eBay feedback: 20% make specific reference to our fast shipping, 10% feel it was a little slow and 70% are satisfied. Ironically, we don't deserve the credit for the fast shipping. Sometimes freight companies move faster than normal. And sometimes (about 10% of the time) they move a few days slower. In this customer's case, they moved a little slower. What we believe is that there was a misunderstanding about shipping times that we were never given the chance to correct because he would not return our communication to resolve. We also believe he will continue to be mad at us no matter what we say or do. We are happy to know that although he will not communicate with us directly, he is very happy with his furniture. We have all had difficult customers in our lives and he has been one for us. We did everything we could, within reason, to make him as happy as any other customer. And while he will most likely always find fault with us and continue to write about how he was wronged, we are happy to know that he got great furniture at a great price and he acknowledges it.

I too had a disappointing experience with Bari Leather Furniture. It took 10 weeks longer to get my furniture than they said it would take and the color started coming off the furniture before I even had it in my home. They insisted it wasn't defective. It took 4 months to hash all this out - get the furniture returned and receive a refund. They would say that all is well because they did take the furniture back and they did issue a refund but what I had to go through to get to that point was exhausting, disappointing and in my eyes ridiculous. There are too many decent companies out there to buy furniture from than to take a chance with this one. Just my experience - others, I would guess, had good experiences.

Actually, we would not say all is well. This is one of those situations that was difficult for everyone and we wish it had gone better also. First, to clear up a small discrepancy, her order did not arrive 10 weeks late. She placed her order on 7/11/07 for a set that takes 8-10 weeks to ship which means it should have shipped by the week of 9/20/07. When we discovered there was going to be a delay she was notified and her set shipped two weeks later than promised. We have full documenation available upon request. Back to the problem; The issue arose from a VERY rare defect that can happen with full aniline dyed leathers. This problem is so rare that this was the first we had seen in over 9 years. This was further complicated by the fact that there was some question as to whether or not this was caused by the consumer. Once we determined that this was a defect, we took care of everything as quickly as possible. We, like she, wish this had gone better and more smoothly, inlcuding the resolution. To be kind, let it suffice that everyone involved could have done a better job to resolve this. No company is perfect, including ours. This was a rare and unique situation and one that we learned from.

I have to echo what dcollie said. There is an old saying which goes something like, make a customer happy and he will tell two people; make a customer unhappy and he will tell two hundred people. And that saying was around before the internet. This forum gets one million unique visitors per month so you missed a golden opportunity to demonstrate a high standard of customer service.

I have no complaints we have had our set for over a year and it is beautiful get plenty of complimnets from guests on it when they come to the house. When we got our set delivered the dust cloth was torn we called bari and they sent a guy out within the week to repair it no questions asked. I think they are a great company and have refered many to them.

Bari answered a number of my questions on several occasions without any selling pressure. I received samples two times before I decided on the color of my San Miguel love seat and recliner. The love seat needed some minor repairs: scratched wood in several places and scuff marks in the leather. Since this is my first leather furniture purchase, I was unsure about the natural imperfections/markings of the leather and real damage. Bari rates their leather on a scale from 1 to 5 with the highest number signifying a natural leather appearance (without correction of imperfections/markings) and the lower numbers a corrected appearance for a more consistent leather look. Mine was a 2. Bari states that the ratings don't indicate quality, just the degree of correction. The leather quality is the same whether it's a 1 or a 5 rating. After notifying Bari by phone and email of some minor damage, I got an email response. In a nutshell, I got ping-ponged between Bari and the shipping company as to who was going to coordinate the repairs. This proved only to be a miss communication between the shipping company and Bari and not them trying to weasel out of making the repairs. The repairs were done, except for one area that they missed but that could pass as a natural look of the leather, although it does bother me a bit. The furniture itself is very attractive and of very good quality, so all in all I'd certainly buy from them again. I really felt somewhat uncomfortable making a larger purchase over the internet, not having seen the furniture and not knowing how customer service would respond if there were problems. It's only because I read many positive reviews that I decided to make the purchase. Because of the internet, consumers can post reviews of not only their purchasing experience but also their customer service experience, too. Therefore, companies must excel in both areas if they want to be successful. Sometimes, as in my case, the product is received damaged. Things happen! How the company responds is crucial. If the company takes ownership of the problem and communicates with the customer throughout, then the customer won't feel cheated. What was initially an unpleasant experience (damaged product) turns into a positive one because of how the problem was handled. Did I say that I'm satisfied with the quality and appearance of my Bari furniture! http://www.barileatherfurniture.com/furniture-collections-1/san-miguel-61/san-miguel-231.html

I happened to purchase the Hennesey leather sectional, chair and ottomon, and love it!!! It is such a beautiful piece and very traditional. I did have some minor damage b/c of the shipping company... but hey stuff happens!! Also a spring broke but bari fixed both problems. The spring was fixed in about a month, but considering they are across the country, that didn't seem bad to me. I am very pleased and will definately buy from them again. The repairman who Bari hired told me the leather set and its frame was the best he's seen in a while! And no, this gentlemen has never worked for Bari before, I happen to live in Upstate New York! I have patience, which is a virture I must add, and understand complications. My leather set took 10 weeks, but Bari stated that my particular set could take up to 10 weeks, so... no surprises here! By the way for all you complainers, I have shopped around and you're not going to find another real set of leahter furniture this nice for any cheaper! You can't please everyone Bari, but you sure pleased me!! Thanks, Sarah.

I also had a very disappointing experience with Bari Leather Furniture. Late last year (2008) I ordered a leather couch set for my home. I needed a set that was a particular size to fit a secific space in my home and they happened to have it. I had never ordered something like this over the internet so I was skeptical but decided to do so after speaking with David on several occations and listening to his assurances that they had a no questions asked return policy and that if there was anything wrong with the set it would be taken care of by them quickly and easily. The set arrived on time. We had added the "White Glove" serivice and told they would unpack and set up the furniture. The drivers were rude and I saw them literally throwing pieces to the side inside their truck to get at my set. They unpacked the pieces and set them in my living room and began to leave without even putting the set in place. I noticed that about half of the protective feet were missing from the legs and there were nails sticking out. I told then to stop as I didn't want to scratch my tile floor. I called David again and he said this was normal and that he would send me some new protectors in about a week. I told him the set was sitting in pieces in my living room and that it needed to be fixed right away and he said he could do nothing but send me new parts. So much for the in home warranty. After waiting 8 weeks or so now I was expected to ait another week with the set in pieces in my living room while they sent new parts. After the drivers left I had to go to Home Depot and buy all new feet for all the legs to match and install them and set the set up myself. Very disaapointing and a big hassle. So much for the white glove treatment. That's a total rip off. The next thing I did at the suggestion of a local leather furniture repair expert who had done some work for me recently on another set in my home was lightly wipe done the new furnture to remove dust with Coach Leather Conditoner. THE COLOR BEGAN TO COME OFF IN MY HAND! I wish I had read this blog closer before I bought the set because I see another customer had this same problem. I immediatley called David and he said he "had never seen or heard of this before" which is apparently untrue as someone else in this blog mentioned the same exact thing. He then tryed to blame me for using conditioner on the couch but said he would have it taken care of anyway. I also asked him about his "No Questions Asked Return Policy" and he very sarcastically told me they would be happy to take the set back but I would have to pay all the shipping charges myself. So much for that policy too! That evening we had freinds over and used the set for the first time. The morning after I noticed the side piece (armless) looked like it was caved in. As I looked at it closer it was obvious that when someone sat on the edge of the couch it had callapsed! I called David again and he acted surprised again and said he would have it taken care of. After a few more weeks and my having to call a number of times they finally contacted a local leather repair expert. He contacted me directly and I described the problems. He said he could repair the pieces but that he would not do the work without before I had thier check in my hand as he expected to be paid when the work was done and that he had been ripped off by other companied like this before. I called David again. He told me he would not pay for the work in advance but said that if I wanted to pay him myself after the work was done I could and he would reimburse me. I had no other choice so I paid out of pocket. The work was complete in the next week and I sent the invoices to David. It took another 6 weeks and several calls to get a check from them. Finally the check came in the mail. I was sure to cash the check and wait several days before posting this as I saw they put a stop payment on someone else's check after he posted a complaint. In the end, according to the leather repair man, this is low quality furniture that can't be expected to last more than 5 years or so and the fact that the color comes off in your hand indicates the leather is not actually tanned properly. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

I have no experience with the company or any of it's customers but to anyone thinking of using any mail order company make sure to do research beforehand. 1) Check up on the company and it's customer service policies. 2) Use a credit card so if problems arise and you can't get a good response from the vendor you always can have the card company to fall back on. Good luck

Just to add to briant73's thoughtful advice: Try not to blindly purchase furniture online without having seen or touched the product in person. Visit a local retailer, or find out the manufacturer and research the quality of product. Would you buy a car or a house without actually looking at it in person? Furniture shouldn't be any different. I had nothing short of an excellent experience with Bari Leather. Their sales associate on the phone was very friendly and answered all of my questions. I was told my order would arrive in 6-8 weeks. Instead it took only 2 weeks. The quality of my new leather sofa is amazing too. But most important, I knew exactly what I was buying. I did all my research beforehand by visiting a local retailer and then looking up the manufacturer online. No one's prices compared to Bari's either. Macy's was selling it for twice the cost!

I placed an order on 11/29/11. I just called them to verify the status of my set because for some reason the manufacturer couldn't finish my set in 8 weeks... huh, it's not finished yet. More over, I had to call them to find out about it myself because the last email from them I received was more than a month ago! I dont know if it's customer service or manufacturer, but I'm very unsatisfied with the whole experience with Bari Leather! Hopefully, I will get it in two weeks... unbroken, in right color, the right set...

I cancelled my order 6 weeks ago after reading this blog and have not received my money back. I have turned it over to American Express who have said they will handle it. I am not in any group, nor do I work for a competitor. Bari Leather, in my experience, lies. It is your decision whether or not to do business with them. I chose not to and am still having problems. Lou even had the nerve to say that 6 weeks ago my credit card company did not process the credit Bari was trying to give me. The paperwork indicates that nothing was filed with American Express. Did Lou think he was going to abscond with my money? I think not. Thankfully, my credit card company will handle it. However, my husband, 2 sons and my daughter-in-law are all lawyers. I believe the bases are covered. By the way, I do not represent another company, nor do I work for another competitor, I am just a buyer. No one put me up to this. This is the dishonesty of Bari Furniture.

Do not buy from these guys. I would be weary of the positive reviews. They are probably posted by the company. I did not receive my order for 6 months and when I requested a refund, they were rude, demeaning and threatened me with 50% restocking fee!!! Finally, after 7 months, I called Amex and they took care of it with Bari. I got my full refund. All I can say is, if you buy from these guys, just think of it as a large donation because you will NEVER see your order!!
