Palliser leather sectionals

I am hoping to purchase a leather sectional from the PALLISER furniture line of sofas. I have found a sofa I really like both online and at my local leather "specialty" store. They are the exact same sofa at both "stores".

The problem is, the local store's sofa costs $400.00 more than the online store BUT thay are telling me that this is because their PALLISER furniture is made in Canada and that the online store's sofa is made in Mexico. Thus, stating that I am paying more because their sofa is a far better product.

The online store is telling me that it depends where I am located as to whether their sofa would come from Canada or Mexico BUT that Mexican made PALLISER sofas are of the same quality as their Canadian made sofas.

I've posed this question to PALLISER FURNITURE from their website but, they were not helpful. Can anyone help me out here?

I realize that there are certain advantages to buying a big piece of furniture locally vs. online, but $400.00 is a big price difference!!! Thankyou!!!

RE: Palliser leather sectionals

The store may be telling you the truth. It really depends where the store is located. The Canadian Palliser plant is located in Winnipeg, which is right above Minnesota and North Dakota. Depending if the store is located closest to Mexico or Winnipeg, the freight rate from Palliser to the store will vary and as a result the overall price of the sectional will be different.

Is it the same leather grade in the online store as in the brick and mortar store? Leather grades will also change the pricing of the sectional. Here is a helpful leather guide that can give you an idea of different types of leathers.

As far as the differences between quality from the Mexico plant or the Canadian plant, there shouldn’t be differences. The hides are sourced from the same locations throughout the world, mostly Europe. Palliser is one company and I’m sure it has the same quality control in both plants. The cost of labor, on the other hand, is obviously much less in Mexico than Canada, hence the price difference.

Finally, the overall overhead for brick and mortar stores is much bigger than for "online entities." If the sectional arrives damaged or if it’s in need of any repair down the road who would take care of it better? Is it worth the $400 difference? It’s something you should consider.

I hope this was somewhat helpful.
