Been on the hunt for a leather ottoman with very specific dimensions. Found this one, which looks promising: http://www.jordans.com/Chairs-and-Ottomans/LF1733220.aspx The description says that it's "Semi-aniline dyed/Lacquer top coat". Should I be discouraged by the "laquer top coat" part? Does that mean that it's actually bonded leather and not real leather?

I think their referring to the finished wood base as having a lacquer top coat, not the actual leather

I agree with rmanbike. A semi aniline dyed leather is not a bonded leather. A bonded leather is a leather in which a layer of leather is bonded to a non leather base on the underside of the leather. Bonded leather is considered one of the least costly leathers. A semi aniline dyed leather is a fairly high end leather about the top 20% of leaterhs sold. It's not quite as good as a full aniline dyed leather as the leather wasn't guite good enough to stand on its own. A protective surface has been applied to the top. The advantage of this type of leather is that it will be more stain resistant and sun resistant than a full aniline dyed leather, but in my opinion a full aniline dyed leather looks best and feels best but also cost the most.
