Iron beds: recommendations?

We are looking into iron beds for our guest room. (Why iron? It's a small room, but we need to put a queen-size bed into it, and metal beds have less visual presence than wooden ones. There's also a window that will be partially blocked, and an open headboard will diminish the effect).

We are considering Brass Beds of Virginia, Wesley Allen, and Amanda Sutton (which is Wesley Allen's "affordable" line---made in China and finished in the US).

A local dealer carries WA and AS, so we've been able to see those up close. With BBOV, we'd be going by photos.

Interested in hearing about anyone's experiences with these products. In the case of BBOV, we'd like to know what the company is like to deal with (so far, the folks have been delightful), and how easy the beds are to assemble. (We're in Vermont, and there are no local BBOV dealers, so we'll be handling assembly.)

What is your price range? Glideaway Bedcarriage has a couple easy assembly metal beds that should touch the mid $200's pre tax. Standard furniture has another...It feels a little cheaper to me though none of our customers has brought us back a broken one.

Price range: good question.

We are looking at this as a long-term investment---something attractive and sturdy that will stand up to regular use (we have frequent visitors).

I won't say that money is no object, but we're comfortable spending anywhere between $400 and $900 to get something that we'll have for a very long time.

Thanks for the recommendations. I will check them out. I really wish Ikea still made its metal bed in ivory---we've got two, and they're still in great shape after nearly twenty years.

Check out Charles P. Rogers in NYC. Beautiful iron beds within your price range. I bought a wood platform bed from them and got great customer service and prompt shipping. They sometimes offer free shipping.
