Back to the transportation issue. My 25 year old daughter finally bought her new car. She compared all the Japanese compacts and selected a Honda Fit. Despite my urging she refused to look at any American car because "They are not reliable". Its going to take Detroit a long time to overcome this prejudice that is probably undeserved at this time. I, besides the Moped, am still driving my 1990 4 cylinder Dodge Caravan because it never breaks and gets 28 mpg as long as I baby it. Several Chrysler dealers are closing in our area and giving huge discounts, way below their costs. I thought maybe its finally time to upgrade so I callerd one of them to see what kind of a deal I could get. I asked for a 4 cylinder Caravan. The unbelievable answer I got is that they stopped making the 4 cylinder available in the Caravan years ago! They deserve to go under. Their smallest 6 cylinder is rated at 18mpg city and 22 mpg highway. I told them 'Thank you but no thank you, talk to you in a few years if you get up to speed with what people really want.' Nick

I tried the little dot before the filters etc, I tried on the download here, I tried on each individual filter and font. See what you started, when I saw your link I thought I'd take a look, it is really cute. But why I ever thought if you were having trouble with it that I would be able to figure it out is beyond me. So many authors and titles mentioned here I've never heard of, I'm beginning to wonder if maybe I'm living in a different world from y'all! I am going to be looking for several that sound interesting to me. I just finished "Lilac Girls", by Martha Hall Kelly. A very moving book. Prior to that was "All the Light We Cannot See", by Anthony Doerr, another thought provoker. Currently reading "Vinegar Girl", by Anne Tyler. Seems silly after those other two, but maybe something light is what I need right now. It will do until I get to the library tomorrow, though. I read Kristen Hannah's "The Nightingale" a couple of months ago. The first few pages were a little hard to get into, for me, but once past that, it was hard to put down. I read a pretty wide variety, but I rarely, if ever, look for 'recommended' lists, or such as that. For years I bought all my books at garage sales, or from Half Price Books, or Sam's Club, or Walmart, and just chose whatever looked interesting. Now I use the library mostly, and I do check out the best seller shelf, but often just browse the aisles to see what catches my eye. Rusty

About a thousand years ago, I was a runner. I had a nice little runner's body. But then I got sick and couldn't run anymore and I sure packed on the pounds. It made me feel so bad about myself. A friend was asking me to go out to some clubs with her and I told her that I looked hideous and couldn't stand to go out in public looking so out of shape.... She just looked at me with her mouth hanging open. She had struggled her whole life with her weight and has always weighed a lot more than I do. I was only thinking of myself when I said I looked hideous and I honestly didn't even "see" her size, she was just my friend in my eyes. But I insulted her nonetheless. I still cringe when I think about it. We often say things only thinking of how we see the world. Posting photos of young, thin, attractive white people and lamenting how awful their hair looks can make a portion of the world who can never look like that feel badly about themselves. There is a whole lot of pressure out there for young women - particularly for young women of color - to have their hair look a certain way. If someone had posted a picture of their actual granddaughter looking this exact same way, people would be gushing about how beautiful she was. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm happy for you. Really - that's not sarcasm. I know this wasn't posted with the intent to make people feel bad. I'm just throwing out another perspective to consider....
