Usually wet mops are bad. However, a thoroughly wrung out wet mop...not so much. Problem is what you might think is a thoroughly wrung out mop may not be wrung out enough to use on your wood floor. A thoroughly wrung out mop is one that will not leave any visible standing water on the surface. A damp mop will wipe the surface and remove dust, soil and food spillage.

Hardwood finish manufacturers have designed those microfiber headed mops which you use with spray bottles as an alternative to string mops and similar devices. The spray bottle dispenses the right amount of cleaning solution and the microfiber cloth head of the mop picks up the resulting residue. The thinking there is to limit the chance of the user wetting the surface to the point where moisture seeps between the boards and damages the product. But you can get good results with other mops, but care must be taken not to wet the floor.
